Church Outreaches

This past week our church organized 2 evangelistic outreaches to the city of Eger.
Our friend Geof Stimack from Denver, CO has been here and did 2 presentations in 2 different locations on the topic of the claims of the Da Vinci Code.

Its not so much that we think the Da Vinci Code is a real threat to the Christian faith, but we more wanted to use this opportunity to share with people that the Bible is in fact reliable and trustworthy, and on the basis of that truth, challenge them to respond to the message of the Bible.

The presentations were well attended (about 70 the first night and another 35 the second night).

One of the greatest things was to see how the people from church really came together and helped out. It was great to see people sharing their faith with friends and family members and even complete strangers afterwards.

We had "feedback" papers that we asked people to fill out afterwards, on which they could check off if they'd like to be contacted in regard to Bible Study, personal conversations about spiritual things, or even our English Club. We got a lot of good responses, and many people showed interest in knowing more.

Please pray that God would water the seeds which were sewn through these presentations and that people would respond to the message as we follow up with them!

    Nick,
I thick you’re wrong to not see the the Da Vinci Code as a threat, millions and millions of people either read the book or saw the movie, and although I think that a lot of the information within the book was suspect I feel that it will influence some to re-examine the many flaws and contradictions found within Christian doctrine.
I thick it is also important to note that at this point global box office sales for The Da Vinci Code have surpassed those recorded by The Passion of Christ, and the movie just came out a month ago.

  3. The reason I don't consider it a threat is because Christianity has been attacked for centuries, but it has withstood those attacks and continued to grow and grow.
That's a very broad statement to just claim that there are "many flaws and contradictions" in Christian doctrine, without giving a concrete example of what it is you are refering to.
I think that the Da Vinci Code is only dangerous for those people who are not willing to dig deeper and research the facts but are happy to just accept whatever is written down as truth. These are the people we were seeking to speak to at this outreach.
So, I agree with you that it is a threat, but I still don't believe that it is a big threat. Christianity has survived much worse attacks than a fictional book, based on incorrect and made-up history, and a below-par film.
