Nobel Peace Prize

First, let me start out by saying that I don't hate Obama and I don't really have a big problem with socialized health care.
However, awarding him the Nobel peace prize for a nebulous message of change and for what he might do in the future is just plain silly.

I snagged this cartoon from this blog. Check it out:

Today, here and there

  1. Today is Canadian Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving to all you Canucks! I'm going to celebrate by watching Canadian Football via Sopcast.
BTW - I just found out last night that in Canadian Football, they only have 3 downs instead of 4, 12 players on the field instead of 11, and 110 yard fields. They also have gigantic end zones. Bummer the CFL wasn't successful in the US; everything except for the 3 downs sounds like it makes for a better game.
  2. Today is also Columbus Day.
So, happy Columbus Day to all the Americans out there, except of course to the Native Americans and everyone else who has an ideological objection to Columbus Day.
  3. We found a new apartment to move into, and will be moving at the end of November.
It is about double the size of where we live now, so we will have a lot more space and comfort. The new place has a big kitchen/dining area, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and 2 balconies. Balázs will have his own room, and we will have an extra room for an office/guest room.
We're happy to have found this place. It is owned by someone we know, and is actually in the same building as Shane and Marianna. We will be neighbors!

On the News - A Híradóban

When we were out on Saturday with the church for the volunteer day, the local TV station was there to film us.
The short report about our work aired today. Here's the video.
You can see quite a few people from church in it, including Balázs, Nate and I. I'm the guy raking towards the end, and you can see Nate working right along side me with his little shovel :)

I don't know who wrote this, but I like it:

“Before you judge someone, walk a mile in their shoes. Then when you judge them, you will be a mile away. And you will have thier shoes.”

Volunteer Day - Szeretet Híd Önkéntes Nap

Today our church participated in a nation-wide volunteer day, organized by the Reformed church. A team from our church took part, and we worked together with some Reformed believers and some boy scouts to fix up a playground in a poorer part of the city.
We planted trees, painted, and fixed up the sand area, which amounted to about 3.5 hrs of work.
Nate enjoyed helping out and playing, and was even filmed by the city TV station, who told me that he was the "perfect advertisement" for the campaign! Good job Nate!
It was good to get out in Jesus name and do something practical to bless our city.
Here are some pictures:
